Moon Camp Explorers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

It was created for research purposes. It has all the parts that astronauts would need (spaces for food, water filtration, trash compaction and more).

1.2 – Why do your astronaut want to go to the Moon and build a Moon Camp?

They could explore different parts of the moon and its rocks and composition. We could discover more about the moon and study it up close and through cameras.

2.1.a – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar lava tubes

2.2.b – Why did you choose this location?

Because of its high mineral content. They will be able to set up extractors and drills to mine rare stones and minerals and send them to Earth as well.
We could build nuclear reactors to get more energy when there is not enough sun (on the dark side of the moon).

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe how you can use the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth.

They would need a fair amount of water and oxygen to start life, as well as some “knitted” living spaces that would only be “inflated” after landing. You should also bring a drill so that you can start mining the natural minerals of the moon. you would also need some land.

3.1 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment.

The habitats are made of a special fabric that is designed to withstand high pressures from the inside and outside. The habitats are also lined with lead to protect the astronauts from radiation. Greenhouse glass is made similarly to bulletproof glass, except that it contains lead particles that protect against radiation.

3.2 – On the Moon, resources are very scarce, but during long Moon missions, astronauts cannot rely on resupply missions from the Earth. Explain how your Moon Camp will provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power.

Food will be brought in the form of seeds (plants), for example potatoes, peppers, legumes and algae. Smaller marine fish that live in an aquarium that grows algae would be suitable for meat. They would also bring kikosi (already fertilized eggs) and grow them together with the plants.

4.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

I would include agriculture, nutrition education and work with animals in my program. In addition, also normal training for astronauts.
