Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

For the location we would build it on the southwestern edge of the Shackleton crater because it’s beneficially helpful; for example its close to the shoemaker and Faustini ice fields which make it easy for collecting ice to turn into fresh drinking water, it is also one of the sunniest places on the moon which means maximum solar energy to power the moon base.

For the base itself, we will build it on the surface. It will have a garage for moon buggies; we will have the main entrance that will lead downstairs to the cafeteria and the bedrooms. There will be an elevator leading to the greenhouse on the next floor there will be an electronic room and storage room. We will have a lab room for if any of the scientists were to find anything on the moon for example maybe a new rock of a new type of liquid and etc. For the storage room that’s where they will store an extra bed or extra computers and toothbrushes and lastly there will be a greenhouse at the top of the building.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We will be making our moon camp on the southwestern edge of the Shackleton crater.

Why did you choose this location?

For the location we would build it on the southwestern edge of the Shackleton crater because it’s beneficially helpful; close to the shoemaker and Faustini ice fields which make it easy collecting ice to turn into fresh drinking water, it is also one of the sunniest places on the moon which means maximum solar energy to power the moon base.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

The water would be provided by the ice in the Shackleton crater in the center of it to the right corner and that would be gone to the ice melting range where we would use solar power to melt it which goes and hits a the hydropower wheel which we would get electricity and then goes to the water storage area which would be enough for plenty of months.

We plant some algae outside our camp but in a closed area with glass which could be grown with the power of solar energy and some types of algae could be eaten ( seaweed, sea vegetables). We also get some soil where we could grow some plants and vegetables using solar energy. And we would have a lab for all this and could test planting fruits and vegetables on the lunar soil. And there would be full of spectrum LED Lights.

two of solar panels that would suck the solar energy and would be given all over the camp. The electricity which is not used would be stored on really large power storing batteries. We prefer the world’s largest grid-scale lithium-ion battery is about a Powerpack system with 100 megawatts of capacity. We would get another source of energy that would come from hydropower. We would melt the ice and when it comes from a tiny hole it would have a lot of pressure and that pressure would turn the turbine which would produce energy which is called the hydropower energy. They use this in dams but we are going to use this in our moon camp.

We would grow algae by using the help of the solar energy produced by the sun. and algae use up carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. All the oxygen is been sucked by tubes and would be spread all over the moon camp.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We need metal and silicon because metal(Iron) can protect the outside on our moon camp. And the silicon can have protection from the inside.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Our moon camp is safe enough for the astronauts because we have a very protective material covering the outside of the building and we also have a very warm heater system.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

When I first woke I made my bed and went to the laboratory/ toilets to go wash and brush my teeth. After I walked down to the kitchen and ate some breakfast.
