Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

In this moon camp astronauts/cosmonauts will: do science, invent new tehnologies, collect regolith which will be transported to the Earth for helium 3, and other materials found in regolith. This moon cam wil also be a hub for future misions to the Mars, and beyond.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

We choose lunar poles because

  1. Temperatures are less exstreme than on the rest of the moon
  2. There is plenty of water ice which can be melted in water for drinking, maintanance and rocket fuel
  3. Sun always shines on the lunar poles which gives us ability to always collect solar power for electricity
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water is being melted and purified from water ice. We can also use collected water as a rocket fuel sourse.

We are growing food on the IMS inn the special modules.
Food: Main fish is ”Cyprinus carpio” and ”Sprattus sprattus”.
Main algae are: ”Laminaria” and ”saccharina”,
Fruit:”Citrus limon”, ”Citrus sinensis”, ”Actinidia deliciosa” ”Malus domestica”
Vegetabiles: ”Pisum sativum”, ”Daucus aleppicus”, ”Solanum tuberosum”, ”Solanum lycopersicum”, ”Lactuca sativa”. On the
Moon there is gravity which means that bread crumbels will fall on the floor which allows us to eat bread on the moon, so we
can also grow ”Triticum aestivum” for bread and ”Oryza sativa” for tasty meals.

We are using solar panels to get electricity.

We get oxygen from regolith which is collected by RHR (regolith harvester rover).

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We plan to build pressurized modules on earth, transport them in LEO (low Earth orbit), when all modules are docked, motors stil attached on the station will preform TLI. When the station is in lunar orbit motors (attached on the station) will preform deorbit burn. When   IMS is on the targeted location solar panels and battery will launched. When solar panels are on the lunar surface near the IMS,  rover  will connect solar panels to the battery. After that multiple rovers  dig out the area for the rocket silo, it will be launched whit satelite dishes and landing pads.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

From vacum of space astronauts are in special pressurized modules which don’t let air leave from the pressurized part.
From radiation astronauts are protected by a radiation shield made out of polyethylene.
From freezing/overheating astronauts will be protected by stone wool and izolation foil. To make temperatures more stabile, there is air conditioning system.
For smaller asteroids we use two layer shield which uses projectiles velocity to brake it in smaller peaces which later colide in titanium shield. The shield and titanium will not protect us from a larger asteroid astronauts can escape from the Moon using lunar landers.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Astronauts/cosmonauts will wake  up at 6 am in CET(London time) time zone. When they brush their teeth they go on a conference whit mission control in MMCC. After that they have brakefast and then they do experiments and sometimes moonwalks. After they have done their job astronauts/cosmonauts have free time to play board games, enyoy the wiev of the beautiful planet Earth or workout. Then they have dinner, and when they are full they prepare for the next day, have another conference whit mission control, and then they go to sleep.
