In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Overpopulation is becoming a problem for the human species. We cannot just stay on Earth. It will become very cramped until some people have died. Our closest place to stay is on the moon.
Part of the moon base is built underground. The rest of the base that is not is made from compressed regolith that can absorb the rays of the sun which can be made layer by layer. There are many parts to our moon base. There is a lab for scientists to study the minerals that the moon contains like gold, platinum, or a type of helium that can be used in reactors. There is also a living space for astronauts to do their daily routine. Underground, there is a gymnasium. Exercise is important in a low-gravity place. Also, there is a cafeteria for the astronauts to eat. That is how we made our moon base.

Why did you choose this location?
There is a chance of ice caps at Shackleton Crater. It could be a source of water for the first few months. Also, the crater is about 4.2 kilometers deep, which could be a “hiding spot” when there is a meteor shower.

We will grow plants that don’t use much water and gases.
We get our power from the sun by using the solar panels brought over.
We get air using the plants that we grow in our greenhouse. These plants still grow without much water or air.
How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?
Our moon base is built partially underground. This part is made from regolith, coated with a layer of other materials.
The part that is above ground is also made from compressed regolith, which is made with a 3d printing technique.
The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.
Part of the moon base is underground. The lunar soil will absorb the sun’s harmful radiation. The rest of the moon base that is above ground, is 3D printed using compressed lunar soil. When there is a meteor shower, we go into Shackleton Crater for protection. Then, the mechs will attempt to shoot down the meteors and mine for resources.
Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts
One day in our moon camp, you wake up to dim light. Once you wake, you do their daily routine. You would put on your spacesuits and walk (bounce) out of our living spaces. The living spaces are mostly made from lunar soil, which protects you from the sun’s radiation. In the morning to make sure nothing bad happened in the greenhouse, you and a small group go check inside it. Inside, there are plants that grow with very little water and oxygen but still prosper. After you leave, it’s time to get ready for the rest of the day’s work. You would hurry down with some fellow astronauts to the cafeteria. After the meal, you realize that there is a shower of meteors coming your way. The mechs are slowly shooting down the asteroids then mining into the asteroids for resources.
When the “All Clear” alert has been given, you go back to the job you were about to do. You went into the lab because you were one of the top scientists. Inside there was a telescope to see far away into space. Below the lab is the living space. That is where your fellow astronauts take breaks and do their daily routine. you decided to exercise in the gymnasium. If you don’t exercise you have a high chance to become depressed. That would make one day of work. You go back to the living space to sleep and hope that no aliens take you for captives.
