Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We know that the Earth is suffering a series of problems and that whether it is due to pollution, meteorites or viruses our home is no longer safe, we need a plan B. Our project is based on designing a lunar base and investigating whether the survival of two would be possible astronauts supported by natural resources from the Moon. Studying this would serve to know if one can think of future colonization of the satellite.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

We chose to build in a location close to the poles, specifically near the South pole due to the existence of areas permanently exposed to sunlight, which would be very useful since the energy of the ship would be transformed by solar panels, and we also chose that pole due to the amount of scientific evidence that shows that there is a greater quantity of frozen water than in the North Pole.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

With a hot tip drill, we would melt the water and boil it to clean it, this would go to a recycling system in the ship.

In the first weeks, we would take supplies, then we would mix regolith and organic waste to get fertile soil and cultivate.

As we have said before, in the south pole there are areas of permanent sunlight, so we would place the panels there. We would also use solar sails and geothermal energy.

We would achieve this through a process called electrolysis, which consists of separating a molecule of water, hydrogen, and oxygen. In the future, we would think about getting oxygen from the regolith.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

NASA published a study saying that it is possible to get cement in space; We would get it by mixing regolith and water, that would be the main material of the base. The exterior of the base, which is on the surface, will be dome-shaped, will be several and will be connected by pneumatic tubes, they will serve in the event of a meteorite impact, deflate and will not be damaged. The interior of the base will be underground. It will have several areas enabled for the activity to be carried out in it.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Outside the base there will be a device called STORM, used by NASA, this is used to measure radiation and warn of solar storms when there are astronauts they will suspend their activities outside the base and lock themselves in a nest room in the inside. The Nido room is an area specially protected against radiation as in space ships. Another factor to consider is the temperature, the base will always be at the ideal temperature for humans through an air system placed under the base floor.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts
The most essential thing for an astronaut is to preserve his mental health, with the adjustment of lights according to the time of the earth and this strict schedule we will be able to conserve his biorhythms.
6 AM- Wake up and clean up
7 AM- Talk to the team, determine tasks to carry out and carry them out
12 AM- Break from your chores for lunch
5 PM- Go outside to collect samples and take them to the laboratory.
6 PM- Dinner, last meal of the day.
7 PM- gymnastics to stimulate creativity
8 PM- leisure time
10 PM- Sleep to fall asleep 8 hours.
