Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our moon camp has a series of large rooms each connected by a hallway. The rooms include a lab, a kitchen/cafeteria, bedrooms(fits four people), a gym, a pool, a greenhouse, a garage, an entry room, and a storage room. Each of these people were former chick-fil-a workers, so they make their own chick-fil-a food as meals. Ingredients are 3d printed. Once the ingredients are hydrated, they grow into a more reliable food source. The air is recycled using algae in the greenhouse. Each person has their own algae farm with more than enough air to breathe. We use water recycling to make sure everyone can drink and we have advanced moon rover which are used regularly to bring astronauts to certain test sites.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Equator

Why did you choose this location?

We build our moon base on the equator, specifically, a crater called raectis crater.

We chose this crater because it was just big enough for us to land, and make a base. Also it is on the equator which means that we are an equal distance from both poles, where our solar panels are being kept.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We will bring along a heated drill, and a certain type of torch that heats the lunar ice into water which we will filter into our base. Then, we have an underground recycling system that will help us reuse our water.

First of all, we have a 3d printer that makes ingredients for Chick-fil-a sandwiches. But we also have a garden where we grow nutritious foods to keep the astronauts healthy.

On each pole there are solar panels, there is no time in the moon’s rotation where both poles are dark except for an eclipse, so we are constantly getting power. They make batteries and transport them via robots to our base.

We will recycle our air using algae farms. There are four algae farms, one per person. Each farm recycles more than enough oxygen for humans to breathe.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We will build the moon base out of polyethylene which can protect us from radiation and keep meteors from damaging our base.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Again we will use Polyethylene to keep the radiation and meteors from hurting us. However if worst comes to worst, they can jump in the pool to keep solar flares from hurting us. We are isolated from the hostile environment using airlocks and sealed windows. (even if they look open in tinkercad.)

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

They wake up after a good night’s sleep and go to the kitchen where they prepare their own meals. After eating a meal with they’re friends they’ll go to the lab to do experiments. Later they’ll go around the base and make sure everything is sanitary and safe. After lunch, they’ll make sure the garden is growing properly and then they would visit the gym to work out. They’d gear up and go into their space suits and then they’ll do the rest of they’re experiments outside. They’ll eat dinner go to the bedrooms and get some rest after an exhausting day.
