Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We will build a Moon Camp prepared for 6 people. These people must research the best ways to live in the moon, explore new territories and new ways of contacting the earth. First of all, we will send the robots to observe the territory. After this, we will send another rocket with the materials. Then the robots will build the camp. Finally we will send a rocket with the people who will finish to assembling it.

The Moon camp has a kitchen, a laboratory, a bathroom, a bedroom, a living room, a garage, a greenhouse and a gym.
The bedroom has six beds. The kitchen has one table and four chairs. There are four bikes in the gym. There is one car in the garage. In the laboratory there are computers. The bathroom has one toilet, one mirror and a shower.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

The best location is at the South Pole because it is where we can extract ice to get water, and it is also where the temperatures are least extreme. In addition, at the South Pole we can take advantage of more time of sunlight. Moreover, our Moon Camp will be in a lunar lava tube.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We would extract ice from the crater and then melt it with solar radiation through a tube so that it would not evaporate, then we would get water.

We would get food from the green house with humidity, light and temperature control. We would extract fertilizer from the organic we will throw away. We will need special seeds that grow up in a few days.

We can get energy from solar radiation with solar panels and store it in batteries for when we haven’t light.

We will extract oxygen from the water so we can breathe.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

With the help of robots and a 3D printer wich uses lunar dust. We would also use parts of the rocket to seal it tightly. We would use insulating material to create it.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

With anti-aircraft missiles we would protect ourself from meteorites. The impact material would be lunar stones. Being underground will protect ourselves from the meteorites. With protective glasses and space suits we would protect us from the solar radiation and temperatures. With the materials of the Moon camp we would protect ourselves from the cold and heat. Moreover, we will use a water circuit to heat and cold the Moon Camp, using the extreme temperatures of the Moon.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

An astronaut’s daily routine is a routine that should include these tasks to do:

First of all, he has to have breakfast when he gets up. Then he has to do some exercise. When he finish it, he must to do the maintain of the Moon Camp and take care if everything is working well. At noon he has to have lunch. In the afternoon he has to carry out experiments such as: analyzing stones and materials, experiments with gravity, experiments with musical instruments, exploring the Moon … When he has finished his work, he will have some free time. Then he has to have dinner and finally go to bed.
