Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

A common saying goes,Life is priceless.our group’s main idea is the same.We tried our best to make our hole plan safer and cheaper.We are worried that we don’t have water to usewe use two ways to get water.We are afraid that the air is not enough,So we find three ways to produce oxygen.We are going to start with three Astronauts.If it is safe enough for more people to live in the base, we will dispatch more.Our base is not only a building.in the future, we can build more in the same area.It won’t be just a base but a town, even a city.We sincerely hope this dream will come true!

 

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

As all we know, there are tons of ice in the lunar poles. In our plan, we need a large amount of water, so building our base there is good for us. The highest temperature there is still below zero centigrade, so the base just need to be warm instead of making the base warmer and colder all the time. We are not afraid of the low temperature. The Nuclear power plant is going to produce a lot of waste heat and we will use it to make our base warmer.

We will get water by melting ice.We use a excavator to dig up the lunar dust above it.We use a concave mirror to reflect sunlight, and melt ice into water. We clean the water, and we can send these water into the pipe and the base. We will finish this work before the Astronauts arrive. We can also make water by mixing oxygen and hydrogen. We can easily find them in the rocket’s fuel.

Astronauts plants food on the moon. We plan to plant Chinese cabbages and potatoes on the moon, because they grow fast and easy to be kept in a low temperature. We will plant them in our“moon garden”, we plan to use shelves to plant them, so all the plants can get enough light . We decide to use Nutrient Solution instead of soil, so it could be a part of the water recycle and these vegetables will be more hygienic. We’ll bring meat from Earth by using vacuum packaging.

We plan to use a Nuclear power plant to produce electricity.The Nuclear power technology is quite advanced,so our group firmly believe the Nuclear power plant is safe enough, and won’t cause any safety problem. We will use solar power at the same time, The sun won’t fall in most of the time.The Nuclear power plant needs to be inspected and repaired, at that time, we will use solar power.

There are three ways. We grow a large amount of plants,they absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen at the same time, which we could use it directly. We can also use green algae, because they have an independent life and need a small space,and all they need is light and water.Electrolyzing water is also a good way. We can use oxygen and hydrogen to make water, and we can electrolyze water into oxygen and hydrogen,This is very convenient.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We will use robots to build the base instead of Astronauts. They will be sent to the moon with spare parts of the base. We plan use tempered glass and lunar dust. The robots will collect lunar dust after they land on the moon, and use a concave mirror to melt ice and Lunar dust, after the Lunar dust was been melted, we will use them to build our base . When the Lunar dust cool down, they will become as hard as rocks, We will use glass as windows.

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

We covered a thick layer of Lunar dust on the surface of the base. We get these Lunar dust just on the moon. It can stop Meteorites and Attenuated radiation. We built a capsule with Independent oxygen delivery and electricity. We plan to leave more than two people in the base at anytime, so they can help each other. When the Nuclear power plant was paused temporarily, we will use solar panels instead.If we don’t have enough air, we have three ways to produce oxygen.

 

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

I am an astronaut from the moon camp.We have a long day on moon so we have to use the time on earth.I got up at 6:00am and I quickly washed my face and put on my coverall and went to the kitchen.My colleague,Benjamin was already there, making roast potatoes. While we were chatting, we received an order from earth.The order wanted me to check up the W214 part of the nuclear power plant.

I went out at 7:30am, then finished the repaired at 9:00am and went back to the base.I washed myself and went to the laboratory to registered data of the base. The report showed that didn’t have enough water and the content of oxygen was decreasing.I informed Benjamin and Professor Zhang.

We started to work immediately Benjamin was operating our robots and the concave mirror was melting ice into water. Professor Zhang and I went to the greenhouse.  we turned up the LED lights and added some organics into the green algae. Benjamin checked the data later and we had enough water and the content of oxygen climbing up five percent. We had stir-fried Chinese cabbages and vacuum packaging beefsteaks for dinner. At eight in the evening, we had an online meeting. Our boss was amazed at what we done.
