Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

My camp on the moon is equipped with rocket platforms that will fly. There are also premises for the housing of astronauts and their work. Looking up you will see a flying station, in which the astronauts will get along a rope that will be pulled out of a rocket. There they connect with the Earth, work, explore space. I also have a station for the extraction of water, electricity and air. It will provide camp premises with air, water and electricity.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

My camp is under a transparent dome that maintains the climate and protects the camp.

Why did you choose this location?

In my opinion, this option was the most practical for me.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air

As you know, on the moon there are many craters with ice. As the sun rises, it begins to evaporate, and when the temperature drops, the freezing process begins. Since a lunar day, by Earth’s standards, lasts a month, water molecules have enough time. A person can take advantage of the situation. “When the surface of the moon turns to sunlight, we could close a certain part of it with a transparent plastic dome. “The sun turns ice into steam, then the steam freezes again, and we collect the resulting crystals.” According to calculations, about 190 milliliters of water can be collected in this way from one square meter of the lunar surface.

Food will be prepared in the camp, in the room that I built, there will be enough electricity.

I will also produce electricity from lunar soil – regolith

I will mine oxygen right on the moon. Directly from the lunar soil – regolith. This method was developed by scientists from Cambridge University.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

For building a house, it is important to choose the right place, especially if we are talking about the moon. I chose the optimal landing site for astronauts, found a flat area with good lighting, landing and take-off from which would require as little fuel as possible.

To build the base I’m going to use 3D printing

The Moon environment is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The astronauts in my camp are dressed in special clothes, equipped with things. The camp is located under the dome, which will protect the camp and the astronauts from disasters.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The day will begin at 10 a.m. The astronauts have breakfast, gather and move to work. At 2 p.m., lunch, after which everyone rests, sleeps, so that the astronauts are awake and work productively all day. At 4 p.m. they continue to work. At 8 p.m. – dinner. Time for personal affairs and at 10-11 p.m. everyone should sleep. Such a daily routine is made so that people work seven days a week and are awake.
