Our project is located in Enceladus, it is the 6th biggest moon in Saturn (19th biggest in the Solar System). It has a pressure of 0,114 m/s² (0,0113 g).
This project is such because it focuses on Enceladus’ underground oceans and how to produce life and live from them. The main structure is a spiral that connects with the underground and overground. By doing this, we can collect water easily. The underground spiral has three blocks. Also is a must first enter through the lobby before accessing the facilities which is located just next to the dome.The interior walls are made of the asteroid’s materials and processed in a way to both maintain the internal pressure and exterior force.
Also,the subterranean has tw0 functions:
Firstly its job is to support the water tank inside it with its spiral form.
Secondly it is used as an urban place,it has different floors and each one has its function:
1. The last floor has robots,spaceships,engineering and repair workshops.
2+3. In the first floor we can find four bedrooms,and two shared bathrooms for each of the crew members,we can find the common kitchen and gym.Then in the second floor we have a play room,meeting room, tools room,control room,and the cleaning room,and last but not least we can also find two nursing rooms for any emergencies.
Then we have the dome, it has a hemispherical shape,it has the function to accumulate oxygen as it has trees that help during their photosynthesis creating a breathable ecosystem that can be adjusted at any moment,and to maintain the pressure in the whole structure.This hemisphere is reinforced with iron, this gigantic crystal dome
supported by iron beams act as a way to keep the internal pressure similar to that of Earth’s. It’s equipped with springs which contract when any kind of unwanted earthquakes or other natural occurrences are produced.
Then we have the tank spiral, this water center is a well where water is being collected and filtered for all the facility.Also we have a lift,as our spaceship’s floors are on a difference of ground level really high, we had to implement an elevator as stairs could leave a stain in the crew members if long time passes by and they do not feel comfortable taking the stair every day,this elevator system can carry up to 25 people which is impressive as crew members could go together and even carry equipment with them.
We decided to select Enceladus as the place of our spaceship because of this main reasons:
Firstly, it has oxygen and many other gasses that resemble the ones we can find in our planet,which can be quite helpful in the sense of looking or creating life.
Secondly,in this moon we can find the subterranean oceans that are the main reason why our spaceship is structured the way it is,this water is the one that took us to Enceladus.
We also found some information on how in Enceladus there is methane, which helps with the growth of underwater living forms of life. Fosforus is also found in this moon which was impossible to find in any other place except planet Earth.Enceladus also has a really fertile soil which is important.
As for any source of electricity or energy, just next to the dome we can find solar panels, as we know,solar energy is a reusable one,and so we will not be damaging the Enceladus ecosystem in any way.To communicate with nearby centers, the lobby building is equipped with a giant satellite dish which intakes frequencies and acts as a communication hotspot, where all members of Spirallism can use the Internet.
