Project description

We decided to build our moon camp on Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun. Mars is a dusty, cold and rocky planet with an average temperature of -153ºC to 20ºC. Its atmosphere is composed of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and argon, and it has an atmospheric pressure of 600 Pa. The gravity on Mars is 3,71 m/s².

To survive on the Red Planet, you need water, food and a place to live to shield yourself from the harsh conditions encountered on the planet. You’ll also need a spacesuit. The spacesuit should provide protection from cosmic radiation and a supply of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide and water vapor for breathing.

Our base consists of a water collector, a greenhouse where we store our food and take care of our animals, and a house. We’ve also got a moon rover to explore the planet, a space rocket and solar panels. The water collector is a device that accumulates water particles and uses a type of freezer to densify them into liquid. The house has two floors and a tube which connects them, this is used to go up and down. Inside the house, we’ve got a heating system since the temperatures on Mars go so low.

The purpose of our camp is to do research on Mars and try to find a way of living there in the future, since global warming has become a major problem on Earth. So, in a way, we’re trying to make Mars our backup planet. Although it’s hardly possible and unimaginable to live on the Red Planet, we’ll do our best.
