Project description

The moon camp challenge is meant to be a fun way for students to design their very own futuristic moon base. In this report we will show you what our moon camp looks like. We are creating a 3d design in tinkercad for this project.

The shapes on photo 1 are meant to represent solar panels that will be used by the astronauts to obtain energy for everyday use. This will allow them to stay on the moon camp for a longer period of time. These were made by placing triangular prisms in rows.

In photo 2, the gray circle is supposed to be a lunar crater. Inside of the crater the see-through dome is an extra base for the astronauts to use for doing experiments or other things, and the door of the base goes throughout the lunar crater.

Photo 3 and 4 shows the main base for the astronauts. There are three parts to this base: the two blue semi-spheres are where the astronauts will plant vegetation (a space garden), and the dark gray figure represents the part of the base that will be used by the astronauts to rest in. In photo 4, we can see the cylinders more clearly, which are tunnels that connect the parts of the base together. We can even see an astronaut going through to get to one of the space gardens. The tunnels meet together in a building on the center of the base, the entrance to the base. The entrance was made by placing a dark gray cylinder and then a bigger see-through cylinder around it, a semi-sphere on top, and using a cuboid as a door. These structures are connected in order to conserve more oxygen.

The antenna on photo 5 was made with various different shapes, like a cube, a cone with no bottom and a cylinder, to name a few. New to the antenna we can see a rock, which was made by using a

rhombic shape. This antenna will be used to share and receive information, and also to communicate via satellite connection back to the earth.

Finally, in photo 6 we can observe a rocket ship. This rocket was made by using a cylinder for the body, a cone for the top, a flat sphere to make a window, and placing two cuboids at the sides to give the rocket a pair of wings. Rockets will be used by the astronauts to travel back and forth from the moon back to earth or vice versa.

In conclusion, we think that our moon camp would be sustainable for astronauts to stay in. This is due to the fact that if they were to use this structure, the astronauts would have a sustainable way to obtain energy for daily use, communicate with their fellow comrades on earth, travel, and in addition the astronauts that will live here would have a great amount of space to live in.
