Project description

This project was done by 14 years old students during physics lessons in the upper middle school (grade 8th). Students were divided into groups of 2 or 3. Their task was to investigate the living conditions on the Moon and the challenges astronauts would face there. Groups could design in Tinkercad the Moon base buildings, their interiors, solar panels, excavators, moon cars, rockets or astronauts. One group also created a lunar vehicle from Lego  Mindstorms and programmed it to avoid the obstacles. Students created posters about their tasks.

Some of the easiest models were 3D printed. One group created the surface of the Moon from a cardboard. On the top they attached old newspapers with wallpaper adhesive. They painted the surface with black and white paint. On the top they spread little bit of sand. After drying they set the printed models to the Moon landscape. The project work has been documented in a Youtube video.

Students had a lot of fun and learned new things about living on the Moon. Everyone is looking forward the online event.
