Project description

The camp as a whole adopts an 82-part distribution, that is, 80% of the division is underground, 20% is above ground, the surface is mainly composed of two parts of the maintenance area and light gathering power station, while the underground contains all the facilities needed to meet the needs of the entire camp staff on Mars. The site of the camp is located in the Mariner Grand Canyon on the equator of Mars, and the underground part will be built in the shallow water ice of the Mariner Grand Canyon, which provides two natural layers of surface soil and groundwater ice for the camp to protect against radiation, and there will be a structure using the principle of thermos cup to keep the camp warm.

The ground floor is the working area, which contains two control rooms, two information processing rooms, two laboratories, two warehouses, and a meeting room. Two of the control rooms are dedicated to their own functions, one to control the solar tower and many robots, and one to control the rest of the camp.

The second floor of the ground floor is the living area, which contains rooms for storing energy, oxygen and water purification, as well as bedrooms, gyms, dining halls and other rooms to meet the living needs of staff.

The surface maintenance area serves as both the entrance to the camp and a layer of protection for the camp. The dome is made of nanomaterials to provide radiation protection for the maintenance facilities below it. The dome is surrounded by refrigeration devices to prevent the ice around the camp from melting. Under the dome, there are three maintenance sections and an environmental conversion room, which includes a robotic arm to perform regular maintenance and repair of vehicles and robots, and an environmental conversion room to ensure that the internal environment of the camp can be isolated from the Martian environment when the staff enters the camp. The light-collecting power station is mainly composed of the central solar tower and the small light-collecting robot around it. During normal work, the reflector on the back of the robot tracks the position of the sun in real time and reflects sunlight to the power generation core on the central solar tower. When the dust storm comes, the protective plate on the solar tower will be closed. The robots will shrink the size of the light collecting mirrors on their backs by three-quarters and fold up their support frames, then gather together to fight off dust storms like ants fighting a fire.
