Project description
The Mars base, as a human outpost established on another planet, marks an important milestone in human exploration of the universe. Mars, as the nearest Earth-like planet to Earth, has always been a key target for human exploration of the universe. The establishment of a Mars base aims to achieve long-term exploration and utilization of Mars by humans, laying the foundation for establishing permanent human settlements on Mars. The construction of the Mars base is a complex systems engineering project, involving fields such as aerospace, energy, life support, and communication.
First of all, in terms of site selection, the suitable areas in the southern hemisphere of Mars are conducive to transportation because they span the Martian equator. Many areas here have low altitudes, which helps to decelerate using atmospheric resistance. In addition, being located in the equatorial region, it is warmer and has better lighting conditions, which is conducive to solar power generation. In addition, the region contains hydrated minerals and may have underground water resources, which is extremely important. The terrain in this area is diverse and rich, with relatively flat low-lying areas, as well as ancient flood impact traces and other scientifically significant geological forms. We use 3D printing technology to make our base construction more rapid.
Secondly, the construction of the Mars base needs to solve the energy problem. The atmosphere on the surface of Mars is very thin, and renewable energy sources such as wind and water energy cannot be used as they are on Earth. Therefore, the energy supply of the Mars base mainly relies on solar energy and nuclear energy. Spherical solar panels can use the sunlight on the surface of Mars to provide electricity for the base.
Third, the life support system is the core of the Mars base construction. Due to the extremely harsh environment on the surface of Mars, the Mars base needs to have an independent life support system to provide astronauts with basic survival materials such as oxygen, water, and food. We have adopted insulation measures: using aerogel and aluminum-coated polymerize multi-layer insulation film, sandwiched with high-strength β cloth, to provide warmth for the dome system and external structure. At present, we use electrolysis water devices to produce oxygen and utilize biotechnology to achieve the recycling of oxygen, water, and food, reducing dependence on Earth.
In addition, the Mars base also needs to solve communication problems. Due to the vast distance between Mars and Earth, there is a certain delay in signal transmission. To ensure real-time communication between the Mars base and Earth, we plan to deploy communication radars in Mars orbit. Establishing this Mars base will help humans better understand Mars and also lay the foundation for establishing permanent human settlements on Mars.
