Project description
In response to the pressure on Earth’s population and resources, we expect to establish Mars camps to explore Mars resources and study surface environmental data to support future Mars exploration and habitation programs.
After collecting a lot of data, our team decided to locate the camp in Mars Orcus Crater, which is a huge basin, and choose this place to reduce the impact of storms on the surface of Mars. Moreover, the mineral resources near the volcanic crater are rich and easy to exploit, which can provide sufficient materials for us to explore and study Mars resources.
The main body of our camp includes planting area, living area, leisure area, scientific research area, medical area, central area and other different areas. In terms of energy, considering that Mars has relatively few solar energy resources and very rich wind energy resources, we adopt a combination of nuclear power generation, solar power generation and wind power generation to complement each other and achieve a stable supply of energy. Mars has relatively few solar resources, so we designed a mobile solar power plant that can adjust its Angle to the sun to maximize the use of solar energy. For water, we have designed rovers that can specifically collect subsurface ice on Mars, and the ice collected by the rovers will be gathered together for melting and other processing to obtain drinkable liquid water. We also capture carbon dioxide to make oxygen and starch. In addition, we will set up a planting base, add organic matter and microbial communities in the soil, improve the soil structure and grow transgenic potatoes and other adaptable crops, we will be equipped with light sources that can adjust the light intensity and tone in the planting area to provide suitable light for crops at different times, and we will raise yellow mealworms and earthworms as raw materials for artificial meat to solve the food problem. In order to ensure the full and effective use of various resources, we will also build waste treatment equipment to realize the recycling of resources. For example, the plastic waste produced by the staff will be processed into raw materials for 3D construction vehicles, and the waste of the staff will be processed as organic matter and fertilizer into the soil of the planting area. We’re using the Mars igloo concept, where the main body of the camp is enclosed and pressurizers and oxygen generators are used to simulate Earth conditions to create a more comfortable environment for our astronauts. For base construction, we use 3D construction vehicles to mine the Martian soil and underground ice and print out the ground infrastructure. In order to respond to the emergency situation of the camp, we will also establish a space transfer station and spacecraft to ensure the safety of the camp.
That’s a brief introduction to our Mars camp. You can also use our model to get a more intuitive understanding of our camp
