Project description

We plan to build a train! We will sit in the train and embark on a journey to the planet.

We plan to start our camping trip on Europa. Its surface is covered with a 15 mile thick (20 kilometer) ice shell, and below the ice shell lies the ocean, with a flat terrain. That’s a world of ice and snow.

Our camp trains use aluminum, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys for their outer shell and cabin structures, as well as lead tungsten alloys for radiation protection. The insulation material between the outer skin and the internal structure is filled with quartz fiber.

The surface protective coating of train internal components needs to be a biomimetic epoxy resin layer with ultra-thin graphene nanosheets that have flame retardant, antibacterial, mold resistant, wear-resistant, and anti-corrosion functions to assist in high-performance anti-corrosion coatings.

Our train uses lead tungsten alloy to block radiation to ensure the safety of train personnel, and uses active radiation shielding technologies such as electric and magnetic fields, as well as radiation resistant electronic devices to ensure the normal operation of spacecraft electronic systems. Meanwhile, considering the extremely cold environment of Europa, the train will have comprehensive heating and insulation technology to keep astronauts and research instruments warm.

Considering the work and life of astronauts on Europa, the train is equipped with a research room, entertainment room, gym, and rest room, and warm bedrooms are prepared for each astronaut, so that astronauts can feel the warmth and comfort of home even on planets far away from Earth. At the same time, there is a breeding room on the train where crops can be grown to improve the diet of train personnel. At the same time, a Europa detector will be carried on the train, which can replace researchers to collect experimental samples from Europa to ensure the safety of train personnel

The water resources in the train come from hydrogen and oxygen fuel cells, and the power source comes from solar power generation. Thanks to the very high reflectivity of Europa, the electricity generated by solar energy is completely sufficient. Of course, to cope with emergency situations, nuclear batteries are also equipped on the train. The oxygen used by train personnel for breathing comes from enriched oxygen in Europa’s atmosphere, as well as oxygen produced through electrolysis of water.

The most important advantage of train campsites is their mobility. They can turn research on Europa into a unique journey, and in the event of unexpected disasters, trains can quickly escape.

All working modes of the train will not pollute the planet Europa.
