The rover would be flown as a simple proof of concept.

Any space exploration vehicle that will spend an extended period in space will need radiation hardened electronics. High grade and pure metals with low density and high strength to mass ratios are used. Lunar rovers are often covered in MLI to insulate them by reflecting sunlight and keeping heat in and preventing the sun from frying them. For example alminum wheels are a good choice for a lunar rover as aluminum is a very light metal and is relatively strong for its weight.
