Project description

Have you ever considered living on another planet than Earth? Our project is supposed to show what it would be like to live on Mars. It would be very difficult, as you would not be able to exit the buildings, and you wouldn’t have any easy resources to access. For this project, we built a diorama using the buildings and greenhouses, and we also made a presentation to include the details our diorama wouldn’t be able to describe, like the solutions for problems such as food, or pressure. Additionally, all these problems were described and solved, we wrote all this information in PowerPoint in more detail. To describe the diorama, we have built many different buildings, all of them crucial for our survival. If you noticed, our science lab is separated from our main structure, and not connected by anything. This is because in the science lab, there could be dangerous substances, and we wouldn’t want this building to have public access. We also wouldn’t want the public to damage or affect any projects or builds that scientists are working on. Also, because the radiation on Mars is very strong, we would coat all the buildings with a layer low Z/High Z/Low Z with the Low Z layer being titanium, and the high Z layer being antimony. We chose this rather than lead because lead is very heavy, and we would have to bring it from earth, which would require lots of energy and space that we won’t have on the transportation ship.

We will also grow many different types of plants by transporting clean soil from Earth to Mars. While we grow these plants in multiple big greenhouses, scientists will test the soil and experiment on it to make it non-toxic by removing any perchlorate or other chemicals. The greenhouses also have airways connected to the main building to transport fresh air produced by the plants. On our diorama, we have also added a livestock building which holds multiple floors and different groups of animals like cows, pigs, goats, chickens and more. This will contribute to our food source and help fertilize our plants. Living on Mars would be pretty cool.
