Moon Camp Pioneers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Pioneers, each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using the software of their choice. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Our lunar camp is mainly divided into three blocks, the living area working area and large equipment, dormitory, clinic, activity building (including gym, restaurant, multimedia room) constitute the living area for astronauts and researchers to provide life and entertainment; the working area consists of command center, lunar garage, nuclear power plant, power center, it is the astronauts and researchers work and research place; large equipment are solar panels, radar, lunar rover, water circulation device, carbon dioxide catalytic device, they are essential facilities in our camp.

1.2 – Why do you want to build a Moon Camp? Explain the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example scientific, commercial and/or touristic purposes).

After thousands of years of development, human beings have basically fully explored the earth, and our steps will not stop at the earth, but to explore deeper into the universe. And the moon is the nearest celestial body to the earth, human beings to explore the mystery of the universe, exploring the moon is the first step, in order to make human better understand the moon, explore the universe. We want to build a fully equipped lunar camp so that our astronauts and researchers are able to survive on the moon for a long time and do better scientific research for the benefit of humanity.

2.1 – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp? Explain your choice.

We plan to build our lunar camp in the lunar sea, which is a relatively flat part of the moon, accounting for a quarter of the lunar surface area. Its flat terrain is extremely suitable for the construction of the camp, the life of people and the work outside. The moon also contains a lot of metal elements and other materials, which provides a material source for the construction of our camp.

2.2 – How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Consider how you can utilise the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth. Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

The lunar soil contains more than half of the glass silica, which is the main component of the stones used in our daily life, and the moon contains a lot of common metal elements, such as iron, barium, titanium, etc. It is feasible to use the lunar soil and some lunar resources to build lunar camps. We used local materials, mined the lunar soil, extracted some metal elements, and then fired the two into bricks as the main building material of the camp. At the same time, we will also bring some Frank fiber from the earth, which has the advantages of moisture-proof, high temperature resistance, tough, light and so on, it will be made into a shell, inflatable it, and then add some facilities to it can become an inflatable building, it in some ways even better than the traditional stone building.

2.3 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment?

Astronauts on the moon are exposed to many dangers from the universe, like meteorites, cosmic rays. We use a high polymerization material that can block cosmic rays, create a layer of protection cover, and then we also through the protection relationship between bionic petals and bud, our camp as a bud, and build a petal-like shell, it can close when needed, so as to protect our camp from meteorites. At the same time we also built a huge pal paste refrigeration and computer system constitute our temperature control system, computer system is responsible for sensing the change of indoor temperature, through the control pal paste refrigeration heat or heat absorption to keep constant temperature, in order to make the astronauts better adapt to the life of the moon, we also built gravity device and oxygen manufacturing device, simulate the gravity conditions on the earth and make oxygen, to prevent astronauts disease due to gravity disease and provide oxygen for astronauts.

3.1 – How will your Moon Camp provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power?

The moon contains high amounts of helium 3, It is a good source of nuclear energy material, We will use it to build nuclear reactors, To provide for nuclear energy, And the moon lasts 14 days, This provides favorable conditions for solar power generation, So we built a lot of solar panels, Power supply to the base through both nuclear energy and solar energy; The water on the moon is mostly in the form of gaseous and ice water, We obtain gaseous and liquid water by condensing and mining and melting, And to purify them, Turning it into drinking water, At the same time, we have also built a sewage circulation device to purify the sewage in our daily life, Change to drinking water, To meet the demand for water. A large number of experimental studies show that planting crops on the moon is feasible, we will be related soil modification to make it can meet the needs of crop growth, and on the moon plantations to grow food crops, at the same time we also built carbon dioxide conversion device, can convert carbon dioxide into starch and water, as one of the food sources.

3.2 – How will your Moon Camp deal with the waste produced by the astronauts on the Moon?

We gather some of the waste produced by astronauts on the moon to burn them to generate electricity, while others convert them into fuel and fertilizer, which also provides energy and nutrients for the growth of crops. We will centralize the management of toxic and harmful substances, store them, and have the opportunity to bring them back to the earth for processing.

3.3 – How will your Moon Camp maintain communications with Earth and other Moon bases?

We built a communication center and radar device, which used radio communication with radar devices and other lunar camps to exchange information in real time. We also built a lunar rover and took it to other lunar camps for face-to-face communication.

4.1 – What scientific topic(s) would be the focus of the research in your Moon Camp? Explain which experiments you plan to do on the Moon (for example in the topics of geology, low gravity environment, biology, technology, robotics, astronomy etc.).

We will conduct some genetic biological research on the moon, through cosmic rays, to change the shape of some crops, cultivate good varieties; we can also conduct geological research, study the composition and the geological structure of the moon, further understanding of the origin of the universe; astronomy is also a good research, we can observe the movement of other planets on the moon, and study some astronomical phenomena; as we all know, the temperature difference on the moon is great, we will also in the moon, to find new energy for humans.

5.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

First of all, we will give psychological counseling to the astronauts, the moon is an unknown environment, the astronauts arrived at an isolated place, the heart will inevitably have anxiety and fear, through psychological counseling way to make them relieved, relieve the pressure and anxiety in the heart. Secondly, we will train the astronauts in the scientific knowledge of the moon, so that the astronauts can fully understand the moon so that they can better adapt to the moon and live and work on the moon; then we will conduct the training on the hazards related to the moon; then conduct physical improvement and work-related training to make the astronauts have good physical fitness and standard operation. Finally, we will be building a huge room to simulate the moon, so that the astronauts can train in it, and actually feel the environment of the moon, so that it can perform a series of missions on the moon.

5.2 – What space vehicles will your future Moon mission need? Describe the vehicles found in your Moon camp and consider how you will travel to and from Earth, and explore new destinations on the Moon’s surface.

We use a lunar rover, which is divided into two layers, the upper layer is the driver’s compartment, the lower layer is the storage compartment, and the material we collect on the moon is placed in it. We will drive the lunar rover to explore and mine resources on the lunar surface. In the future, we will also build a space station in space specifically for the study of the moon, which will have a special transport spacecraft, through the transport spacecraft to carry out the lunar camp and the space station, the earth for personnel exchanges, then there will be more astronauts and scientific researchers to our lunar camp, they come from all countries in the world and have the same dream, to study the moon personally, and dedicate themselves to the future development of mankind.
