Moon Camp Pioneers 2022 – 2023 Project Gallery

In Moon Camp Pioneers, each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using the software of their choice. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangers of space and describe the living and working facilities in their Moon Camp.

1.1 – Project Description

Me and my teammate decided to give slightly different versions of the moon base. My version consists of a rocket, a close up of the base on the moon as well as separate models for the protection (opened and closed), machines for mining and the interior of the base.

1.2 – Why do you want to build a Moon Camp? Explain the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example scientific, commercial and/or touristic purposes).

Camp (for example scientific, commercial and/or touristic purposes). *

The whole purpose of both of our camps is to make living on the moon permanently possible, functional and decently comfortable. The bases give way for living, traveling, mining on the moon.

2.1 – Where do you want to build your Moon Camp? Explain your choice.

On the moon because that’s where we are trying to make living possible.

2.2 – How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Consider how you can utilise the Moon’s natural resources, and which materials you would need to bring from Earth. Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

The moon camp is to be built by both resources from the Earth and the Moon as we need to first get to build the structures and machines in order to to get materials from the moon which can then be used for building further and being sent to Earth. The bases need to be strong and resistant so they will be half metal, half other materials.

2.3 – How does your Moon Camp protect and provide shelter to your astronauts against the Moon’s harsh environment?

The project has passive defense that can survive emergencies but protection is taken care of even when the defense is not active – each of the buildings that is surrounded by the exterior defense system provides a different kind of protection (heat and cold resistance, radiation, vacuum).

3.1 – How will your Moon Camp provide astronauts with sustainable access to basic needs like water, food, air and power?

Food is provided via growing plants on the moon. Water is provided by being retrieved from the moon and filtered. There are oxygen tanks around the whole base that filter the remainder of the reactions that happened during the filtering of water. Power is generated by solar panels and nuclear reactors.

3.2 – How will your Moon Camp deal with the waste produced by the astronauts on the Moon?

We would try to recycle as much as possible but what can’t be reused will be buried.

3.3 – How will your Moon Camp maintain communications with Earth and other Moon bases?

 Via satellites and rockets.

4.1 – What scientific topic(s) would be the focus of the research in your Moon Camp? Explain which experiments you plan to do on the Moon (for example in the topics of geology, low gravity environment, biology, technology, robotics, astronomy etc.).

We would test the limits of the soil by attempting to create a plant species that can survive solely on the Moon as well as test just how well we can adapt the gravity of the places and objects we use (astronaut shoes and floors of bases).

5.1 – What would you include in your astronaut training programme, to help prepare the astronauts for a Moon mission?

We would create a 6 month course that consists of mostly pretending to live on the moon using virtual reality and a prop base in order to make habits that will prepare whoever is to go to the Moon without there being consequences to their actions quite yet so they can learn from their mistakes.

5.2 – What space vehicles will your future Moon mission need? Describe the vehicles found in your Moon camp and consider how you will travel to and from Earth, and explore new destinations on the Moon’s surface.

There would be elaborate rockets that will be used as transportation for going back and forth between Earth and the Moon. As for transport ON the moon – Lunar Vehicles are the way to go (“LV” – driver’s license for them can be earned during the 6 month course mentioned above).
