Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Describe your Moon Camp project.

Our Moon Camp are supposed to build the main camp underground to avoid being hit from the meteorite. The construction of our Moon Camp has three floors: the ground floor, B1 and B2. The ground floor is mainly used to extract oxygen and some kinds of metal from the moon’s soil. B1 is the area where astronauts mainly work and rest. B2 is a circulatory system which can recycle the air and the water in the Moon Camp. Our Moon Camp can hold four astronauts to live in.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

There are 40 craters at the north pole of the moon which have 600 million tons of water ice. Although it’s in solid, the north pole of the moon is close to the zone which is in permanent darkness and the zone which is in permanent light, which makes the north pole of the moon hotter and is rich in light. The situation is advantageous to generate electricity . Changing solid to liquid is conditional. It is the source of water. The temperature is better for survival. There are more maria at the north pole of the moon which are easier to land. The resource is easier to get too.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

First, we should build an oxygen furnace by glass on the surface of the moon, the electrode in it can be energized. We use the shield tunneling technology to dig holes and build the comprehensive regional first to satisfy the need. We use gasbags and memory mental to bulid the temporary comprehensive regional. When extracting oxygen, we can use the rest of the earth to extract some kinds of mental like Titanium and Iron which can be used to build the rest of the camp.

Astronauts collect water ice in maria, and store the water ice at the oxygen charmers. The waste of the heat in producing oxygen is used to melt the water ice. We recycle the water in the basement (B2 is the circulatory system). All the water which is used will flow into the circulatory chamber on the ground floor. The pumping station then pumps the water to the living space.

The comprehensive regional will be changed into vegetable plot after the body of the building is completed. LED lights are used for growing the vegetables (the radiation on the surface of the moon is too strong to plant vegetables). At an early stage, the source of the food is compressed food which is delivered.

The power can be provided by solar power generation. The zone which is in permanent light is at the north pole of the moon which is maria at the same. It makes the laying of solar panels easier. Due to the process of producing oxygen produces a difference in pressure and heat, we can use wind power and heat to save the energy, it’s also possible to energate electricity bygeothermal.

The two specific areas aims to extract the oxygen element from the earth to produce oxygen. According to the latest research, use molten salt for electrolysis, we can extract 96% oxygen of the earth in 50 hours and 75% in15 hours.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The top layer is of hexahedral structure, which is strong. It is built underground to reduce the impact of meteorites. The outer wall of the camp is not easy to crack with the design of two-layer partition. An emergency living room is set, which can store food and water for 4 weeks in case of emergency.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

In the early stage of the work, the mission of the camp is mainly to transport the earth into the reaction vessel to produce oxygen to maintain normal breathing and life, and extract the metal with good neutral energy of the earth to improve the function of the camp. After the completion of the camp, we can first carry out a preliminary measurement of the temperature of the moon’s core and complete a series of scientific research and investigation tasks to see if the moon has a real structure similar to the earth’s core; after eating, we can analyze the data and use the calculator and satellite signals to transmit the data to the earth to update the ground database. You can relax and exercise after dinner.
