Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2019-2020

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Describe your Moon Camp project.

Our station will have a part underground and the other on lunar surface.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We want to build our base on the moon in Hayn. We chose Hayn because it is close to the north pole of the moon, and because it is close to the poles we have access to water because of the ice in the lunar poles and also because of the climate because the poles are where the climate is best if you want to have any chance of survive. Hayn is also located in a crater which will help to survive storms by being in a place a little more protected.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

The materials to build the base on the Moon must be light, as they will have to be expelled from the Earth’s gravitational field using rockets, the buildings must have walls thick enough to keep out radiation and astronauts would have to wear heavy space suits when leaving the installation. The walls must also be strong enough to withstand pressure differences between the outside and the inside and handle the impact of the micrometeorites, and as with any lunar base, it must have an air chamber.

For us to have water, we will use the ice in the linar poles.

For food we’re going to grow, we’re going to make a greenhouse using hydroponics, a cultivation technique that doesn’t use any soil, the greenhouse has a cylindrical shape approximately 5.5 meters long and 2.5 meters in diameter and is designed to be buried, which would help to protect it from the radiation present in space. For this reason it also has its own lighting system that allows plants to continue photosynthesis even without the benefit of sunlight.

For energy we will use solar panels, but in extreme cases, we will use batteries and a hydrogen generator.

To have oxygen we will use the lunar dust itself.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

We will protect ourselves living underground.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.
