Project description
Our school hosts an annual science fair, the culmination of MUSIS: US CHILDREN, MASTERS OF SCIENCE, now in its 27th year. Its aim is to explore science in education, foster cross-disciplinary interaction, and spread scientific knowledge in the community. This year, classes 5A and 5B are participating in the ESA’s Moon Camp Challenge, showcasing acquired knowledge, experiments, 3D projects, and learning about special guests Samantha Cristoforetti and Luca Parmitano.
We plan to explain Kelvin to Celsius conversions for lunar temperature tables, pie charts from experiment results, and biographies of our guests. Following, we’ll outline the process of determining the location and method for constructing our base, followed by crafting the model using both 3D-printed components and recycled materials.
Our lunar base, “FRIGNANI MOON BASE 1,” incorporating:
– 7 DOME structures covered with 3D-printed regolith bricks for protection, hosting: surface control center, bedrooms, labs, gym, common room, medical room and garage for rovers and 3d printers.
– AN UNDERGROUND CONTROL ROOM for emergencies.
– A GREENHOUSE for food cultivation.
– A LAUNCH/LANDING PAD.
– A SOLAR FARM.
– TWO WATER TANKS for storing lunar ice water.
Our base will be located near the Shackleton Crater’s Peak at the lunar South Pole, offering constant irradiation and moderate temperatures. Initial construction involves the landing module, followed by dome construction using 3D printers and robotic arms.
For sustenance:
– Water Recovery System (WRS) and lunar ice collection will provide water.
– Prepackaged food will be used initially, transitioning to locally grown produce.
Electricity will be initially from the module’s panels, later from a Solar Farm using 3D-printed panels. Oxygen will be extracted from water, and air will be filtered.
Protection from solar radiation and insulation will be ensured by regolith brick coverings on the domes.
