Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our world is running out day by day. We must get a livable environment on the Moon for future life. That’s why we’re going to study the Moon. Our camp is divided into underground and aboveground. We pay attention to make our own production as much as possible in our camp. The name of our project consists of the initials of our astronauts. We hope that our project will be useful for the future.

We planned to protect astronauts from external factors in many ways. We put important places for life in the camp underground. We placed a device on the side of the camp that draws radiation and converts it into electrical energy in order to prevent possible damage by attracting radiation. We used non-radiation building materials to build our walls and roofs. We designed our roofs globally to avoid possible meteor strikes. For an emergency, we built a meeting area downstairs.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Poles

Why did you choose this location?

The reason we chose this place is to get water with the ice masses in the Moon poles and we chose the South Pole because the South Pole will be warmer than the North Pole.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

Some of our camp is underground and some is above. Being underground will protect our astronauts from radiation and harmful sun rays. Our structure on the ground will be made of a material resistant to radiation. In addition, the roofs of the buildings in our camp will cause the reflection of harmful sunlight by using the glossy surface to a large extent. The heat will be balanced.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

It will be produced from underground ice. The underground ice will be removed by the drilling machine, then the ice will be melted and then filtered to be used and the waste materials will be cleaned. The water used can be cleaned and used again.

Vegetables, pulses and grains will be grown in regularly irrigated and air-purified greenhouses, and meat will be brought from Earth until settled life.

Electricity will mainly be produced from solar panels. As a second alternative, the radiation will be collected and converted into electrical energy by power plants that collect infrared radiation. If there is a problem and electricity cannot be produced, heat energy will be created by burning the hydrogen in the spheres filled with hydrogen by expanding previously brought from the Earth until the help comes from the Earth, and then the heat energy will be converted into electrical energy.

The residual waters will be decomposed as oxygen and hydrogen by hydrolysis. Oxygen will be used for respiration and hydrogen will be stored for rocket fuel upon return to Earth.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Our astronauts will wake up at 7 am London time and do their morning sports. Then they will have their breakfast and start their daily research and observations. At 13 o’clock, they will take a break, rest in their living room and have lunch. Then they will check and care for the plants in the greenhouse. They will send the necessary reports about their research to the world from the communication room. They will eat at 7 in the evening, will do daily health checks and then do their sports. Finally, they will make the necessary final checks of the camp. They will devote the rest of their time to themselves.
