Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021
In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description
We named our project as Kalpana due to two reasons , first to respect the tragedy of Columbia space shuttle . One of the crew on board was Kalpana Chawla the first Indian women to go to space and second the word “Kalpana” means “thought” in marathi ( my mother tongue) and our design is a thought which could be reality soon . |

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?
Close to the Lunar Poles Why did you choose this location?
The best place for the construction of the design would be the lunar poles due to the good amount of ice , sunlight and the cold temperatures meaning we just have to keep adding heat instead of regulating it . This heat can be brought from the nuclear reactor . There is also a good concentration of minerals and metals on the lunar poles. How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?
Majority of the design will be made using 3-D printing . The 7 dome in the design ( the main dome and the 6 doom of living quarters) will be made using an heat insulation sheet further covered with 3-d printed lunar dust printed by the 3-d printing rovers which used the lunar dust as the material to give protection against radiation . Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:

Water

Food

Electricity

Air

A few years ago we found water molecules in form of ice on moon , So we could melt and filter the water and make it drinkable in our water filtration Unit. Also when the system is shutdown for maintenance or failed due to some problems than the gas extracting unit can use the sabitiar reaction temporarily to make water and methane (which could be use as fule for rockets) |
The poly house and oxygen plant produce food using plants of tomatoes , radishes and salad plants. |
The fission nuclear power plant is the primary source of electricity and heat energy in our design. |
The poly house and oxygen plant also produce oxygen for the astronauts to breathe. There are snake plants planted the produce more amount of O2. Oxygen alone is not fit to breathe so there needs to be other gases too . To solve this problem we used the gas extracting unit which will extract gases like nitrogen from the lunar surface change into gaseous form and send them to the oxygen plant to be mixed with O2. |
Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts
It’s a new day on the lunar surface the astronauts have just woke up . If we take the time as IST than it’s 6 am in the morning , now the astronauts are doing there gym in there respective living quarters. After 2 hours of excercising it’s breakfast time with tomato gravy. After the breakfast all the astronauts meet in one of the living quarters in the conference room to discuss the day’s task and submit the fitness report to Earth. Than all the astronauts do there respective work and have a luch break in between . The work includes a regular check on nuclear reactor , water filtration Unit etc and doing experiment and mining . Later in the evening again a conference meeting is taken with the centre on earth reporting about the day’s work and at last the astronauts go to bed at 9pm. |
