Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our moonbase consists of two water-towers to supply the astronauts with potable water. This water is produced with a fuel cell that also suppies the base with electricity out of hydrogen and oxygen.

Between the water-towers there is the farming-dome where food is grown.

The entrance with the main air-lock is on the left, from there you get to a viewing room where you can have a look outside and to the other sections of the base.

A central habitat has a living area with recreational facilities for the astronauts. Other modules are used for scientific research or for private rooms, where the astronauts sleep.

A few meters away from the station there are production facilities.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Equator

Why did you choose this location?

To gain the maximum amount of sunlight for the solar panels.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

To minimize the amount of material that has to be transported to the moon it makes sense to use the materials on the moon (regulith). Studies have shown that 3d-printers can use this material to build base-strucures.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water is produced with a fuel cell that also suppies the base with electricity out of hydrogen and oxygen. Additionally, water can be produced out of regulith.

Plants can be grown in faming-domes under special conditions regarding temperature, humidity and light.

Solar panels produce electricity als well as hydrogen/oxgen fuel cells

Oxygen can be gained from of moon-rock.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Astronauts are working in shifts on the base – so some are always working, while others sleep or enjoy their spare-time.

During a day, some do scientific research, others check if the machines producing electricity, water and oxygen are ok, check or harvest plants in the farming dome or operate machines that are building additional base-modules.
