Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our team designed a huge moon base for 20 astronauts. Their goal is to prepare the base and moon for potential future colonisation.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Lunar lava tubes

Why did you choose this location?

We would like to explore caves inside the lava tubes more and try to find another place where people can live in the future. Our base counts with a lot of exploring expeditions.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

The main materials are aluminium, plastic glass and moon regolith. Inflatable modules will come first. Robots and astronauts will cover them using moon regolith so the base have some protection from micrometeorites, radiation and temperature changes.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We will try to find some water in the Lunar tubes and caves so we can find another source. The main source of water will be the water from Earth which will be carried by many transportation rockets.

We have a big greenhouse where we grow tomatoes, potatoes and algea. A lot of food will be transported from the Earth.

We have built dozens of solar panels so we have enough electricity for our big base. We will have very powerful batteries. If we find another source of water we will try to produce rocket fuel using electrolysis.

Some air will be produced by our greenhouse but most of the air will be transported from the Earth.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Astronauts at our base will have a lot of work because of the dimension of our base. They will get up at 6:30AM UTC and immediately after breakfast at 7:00 they will perform EVAs so they have enough time for caves discoveries. Some astronauts will stay at base and do maintanance of the base. Lunch is at 12:00. They workout after lunch. Then they do some research of samples collected during morning EVA. At 6PM is a time to rest and some entertainment with the colleagues. Dinner is at 8PM. Good night.
