Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our camp will accommodate up to five people. It will be equipped with a gym in which you can keep fit, a leisure area in which you can rest, chat among themselves, be distracted… , a laboratory, a computer room to communicate with the earth among other things, a storage room and a bedroom large enough for the five astronauts, this bedroom will have three bathrooms. At the bottom of the base shall be the electrolysis machines and other machines necessary for the proper functioning of the base. There will also be a dome that could be accessed from the leisure area , it would be like a kind of lunar park so you can feel at home. Outside are located rockets, solar panels, robots for research abroad…

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

Because there’s a lot of research that shows that there’s water ice in this crater, which will help us produce water. Also because on the edge( that is where our base will be located) gives the sunlight almost continuously, something that will be perfect for obtaining solar energy.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

The camp will be located underground (except greenhouses, ships and machines), which will protect it from possible asteroid impacts.

The materials with which it will be constituted will be carbon for the entire base and armored glass, which will protect the plants that are outside while allowing light to pass through.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We will get the necessary water for the astronauts through the water ice as there are investigations that confirm the existence of this at the poles. Because of this, our base will be in the crater Shackleton, which is at the lunar south pole. The base shall be equipped with the necessary machinery for extraction and purification. The latter will be located on the top floor.

The food will be obtained from a greenhouse located outside where fruits and vegetables with more nutrients and vitamins will be planted, which will be essential for astronauts to carry out their activities correctly. Food will also be transported from the ground so that in case this greenhouse fails they have food

We will get the electricity from the solar panels that will be located outside. These panels will have enough energy for the entire camp, but will also be equipped with electrolysis machines, which in addition to providing energy will produce oxygen.

We will get the oxygen from the plants that will be located at the top of the camp. Plants will purify oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. It also opens electrolysis machines to produce oxygen and will be located on the last floor. The oxygen from the electrolysis will be distributed throughout the base through ventilation ducts and can be closed in case of any problem.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The astronauts will start the day by waking up in their room which has three bathrooms, the five astronauts will have to agree to see that two astronauts will be in charge of doing a routine review of the entire base to see that everything works properly while the other three are asean. Once everyone has cleaned up and done the routine check-up, they will have breakfast in the leisure and rest room, where there will also be a dining room. After performing all your basic needs you will begin with the tasks of the day, starting by communicating with the earth in the computer room. The time they will spend working will be approximately two hours, and then take a break of a quarter of an hour, once this break is finished they will continue working until lunch. When they have finished eating, they will organize the time in the same way, but this time they will dedicate themselves to outside tasks, such as greenhouses, outdoor machinery… In order for the astronauts to have good physical shape, they will perform at least a half hour of exercise, which will be after lunch, and then start with the tasks. When the day is over they can rest and chat among themselves in the leisure area and then go to bed.
