Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The purpose of our camp is to research the growth and birth of living beings in hostile or non-planetary lands, including either plants or animals. However, we have not only focused on that, consequently, in our great design, you can appreciate other types regarding experimentation that can also be seen influencing other disciplines of study. As an example, how less gravity affects the human body and if evolutionary adaptation is feasible.
In a second stage, this first camp would serve to launch manned expeditions to Mars which it´s known to be the planet with a hopeful future in possible space colonies and terraforming.
This will be a new step for man and the zenith of human greatness.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the Lunar Equator

Why did you choose this location?

Our moon camp is going to take place in a shackleton crater, near the pole so that we can
get water from the ice. However, we’d like to establish the camp near the equator, too in
order to earn solar energy. Therefore we have chosen a spot in the middle of both.
Available to dig in the surface of the moon to create a geothermal station and solar panels to
supply energy.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

The plan is to make a group of travels to bring there all the materials and machines to build
the camp, such as cranes or lift truck, the main part of will be made of glass resin because of
its resistance and low weight also with this qualities you can easily transport it from the earth
to the moon. As a reinforcement we would take and use moon rocks. Finally once the body
of the camp is finished we will send the rest of the equipment.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

It will be taken from the pole´s ice

Thanks to the ice water and amounts of rich dirt taken in the Earth, we
will make a vegetable patch which the main element will be a huge
greenhouse.

Making a solar panel station is the principal idea to bring most of the
energy that the staff needs, but when the Sun doesn’t point to the moon side
we are going to use a geothermal station to supply the necessary energy for.
An electrolysis system to obtain hydrogen as an energy source would also be available.

The same plants that supply us food, gonna bring the necessary air and
with a pipe system that distributes it, to all the facilities connected to the
greenhouse.We have also thought of an electrolysis system to obtain oxygen from water as well as hydrogen

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

I wake up in the morning, then I go to the dining room to have breakfast with the other scientist. When I finish my food, it starts my day. I go to the greenhouse to check that all the plants are in the optimum state and how its evolution is going on the moon. Then I go to the air section to make sure that the O2 levels were in order. When all the systems are working I put up my astronaut suit to go on a trip to the moon pole to investigate how different things affect that place. When I finish, I go to the facility and have my training session to make sure my body doesn’t lose its strength and pass some time to myself to finally go to sleep.
