Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The camp has the following equipment, facilities and rooms/spaces:

Telecommunications
Radio-telescope
Building 3D printer
Two vehicles
H2O Unit
H2 Unit
O2 Unit
Recycling Unit
Solar Panels
Working Area 1, which includes workstations and consoles for the monitoring and control of the Telecommunications, the Radio-telescope and all units of the camp (H2O Unit, H2 Unit, O2 Unit, Recycling Unit).
Working Area 2, which is the scientific lab.
A space for the accommodation of the astronauts.
A Greenhouse

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

The camp is located nearby a moon crater, in order to heat the ice and pump-up water towards the H2O Unit. The H2O is separated to H2 and O2, which are stored in the H2 Unit and O2 Unit, respectively. The O2 is conveyed everywhere in the camp, but is also required for the combustion of the H2, in order to produce energy for all vehicles.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

Moreover, all buildings / spaces of the camp were built by 3D Building Printer, which was “fed” by “local” materials (namely, rocks from the Moon surface).

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We get water from the heated ice that we also use to create H2 and O2.

Food is produced in the Green House.

Electrical energy is mainly produced by Solar Panels, installed at top of all roofs of the camp, while H2 can be used as a back-up energy source.

The Recycling Unit cleans the H2O which is produced by the H2 combustion and recycles all waste of the camp.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

In the morning the astronaut is going to check if everything working ok to the pumps. After that he has to inspect the vegetable crops. There must all the vegetable has watered and cleaned from various bugs. Its time to go to barracks and have meal. Later in the afternoon he will have to try with the self-propelled drill to find some precious metal for survival.

In the afternoon and before nightfall he will check the solar panels. In the evening he will have dinner and watch a movie on TV in the living room.
