Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

This project is about a camp that is situated on the Moon in which 6 humans are going to live there for a period of time. Our base consists of six bedrooms for each crewmate.  It includes a bathroom per area, a clinic,  a lab, a communications room, a mechanical workshop, a cultivation camp, a gym, a warehouse, a well, a communications antenna, an all-terrain vehicle, solar panels and a battery to have energy.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

Our base is going to be built on the south face of the Moon because we need all the solar light as possible to be able to have energy. It’s also going to be inside the Shackleton crater as this prevents radiation from hitting the crewmates.

To be protected from the radiation and meteorites we would build the camp base inside a crater and cover the camp with lead because it isolates.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

To build the camp we would use concrete and steel because these materials would prevent us from radiation. We would bring the pieces separately and then build the base when we arrive.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

To get water we would make a well to extract the ice of the Moon and then melt it.

We would bring seeds that can be planted in the Moon such as tomatoes and wheat. While we wait for the seeds to germinate we would feed ourselves with canned and dehydrated food.

We would have power thanks to the solar panels placed on the domes. That energy would be preserved in a huge battery because in the Moon there are two weeks per month in which we wouldn’t get any sunlight.

To have air to breath we would take part of the melted water and separate it’s molecules with the electrolysis. So, we would have oxygen and hydrogen.
