Registrations are closed for Moon Camp @Home 2019-2020.

In a future not too far from now, astronauts will have to stay for long periods on the Moon. By participating in Moon Camp @Home you can help them by creating a 3D model of a research base where they can live and work to explore the lunar surface.

You can design a creative lunar base using Tinkercad and complete one of these challenges: design a lunar lander, a lunar rover, a rocket and a space station, or design a complete base on the Moon with astronauts quarters, a greenhouse, a gym, a laboratory and a power plant.

This model is a replica of the lunar rovers used during the Apollo missions 15-17. This rover could be easily assembled and driven around. Because it weighed 200kg, the vehicle was designed to be left on the moon when the astronauts had to leave. It was made with the intent to help the astronauts explore a larger area around their landing site. Although with a price tag of 38 million, it was worth it because it allowed the astronauts to collect more samples of lunar rocks. The tires of the vehicle had wire mesh in order to improve traction on the moon. The radio-shaped disk you see at the top is the antenna, used to transmit signals to earth. The rover also had platforms in which tools and rocks could be stored.
