Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our moon camp project is to establish settlements and industrial bases on the moon, this way not only can accept and use the abundant solar energy directly, you can also directly with helium fusion fuel – 3 as a rocket fuel, and due to many reasons such as gravity and no wind, the moon than the earth is more advantageous to human launch of the spacecraft. We built a colony on the moon not just for human habitation, but for the convenience of scientists who can explore the moon for the benefit of mankind.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

I would like to build a lunar summer camp in the @ Ken Basin at the lunar South Pole, which is a huge impact area around the lunar South Pole region with lots of impact craters. It’s permanently shielded, which means it can have a constant temperature. In addition, multiple missions have confirmed the presence of water ice in the region, which can be used to produce products ranging from hydrogen fuel and oxygen to drinking and irrigation water.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

Titanium, a metal with high strength and low density, is used to make satellite receivers. Titanium is used to facilitate our transportation, the satellite receivers are convenient for our communication, and the detectors are convenient for our exploration of the lunar terrain.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The space in which the astronauts lived and often traveled on the lunar camp was made sealed, pressurized, and insulated from the outside environment. We will also install a base on the moon that can provide its own radiation shielding, reducing the harm caused by radiation on the moon.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We need to transport a certain amount of water from the earth, to create a circle, to make the water cycle,

Bring some plant seeds from Earth and circulate water by growing vegetables and fruits in the circulatory system and by transpiration from the plants

The solar panels are used to convert electricity to power the lunar camp

Through the photosynthesis and respiration of plants in the circulatory system, the air is circulated so that oxygen no longer restricts human activities

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The main purpose of my lunar camp is to provide scientists with a safe and suitable place to live, so that they can conduct further exploration on the moon.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

When astronauts wake up in the morning, they grow food crops, vegetables and fruits, feed animals (consumers), and microorganisms to degrade waste. The plants not only provide food for astronauts, but also produce oxygen through photosynthesis and pure drinking water through transpiration. The parts of plants that humans don’t eat, such as crop stalks, vegetable roots and old leaves, can be used to feed animals, providing astronauts with high-quality protein and a more reasonable ratio of amino acids. Finally, the remaining inedible part of the plant, human excretory waste, kitchen waste/household waste, is sent to the microbial degradation process, microorganisms can decompose the fixed carbon, into carbon dioxide into the air to be reused by the plant for photosynthesis; Recovering water and nitrogen from urine as well as biologically purified sanitary waste water is used for irrigation and cultivation of plants. The plants absorb the carbon dioxide and water from the disposal of these wastes, and they can constantly grow new food. After the astronauts survey during the day, they can cook for themselves and have a big dinner in the evening.
