Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our Moon Camp will be used for scientific research. Our campsites will be gathered in a circle. The outer circle of the circle is a special solar panel to maintain power supply. There is a special passage between the campsite and the campsite for astronauts to walk. , And there is oxygen generated from the ecological park in the camps and passages to ensure that astronauts can safely shuttle between different camps even without wearing bulky spacesuits. The camps will be divided into four main areas, namely The main control room in the middle, the small ecological park around it, an office area and a rest area.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We chose the South Pole as the site of our camp. The manned lunar base in the polar region has a small sun altitude and a small temperature change. Compared with the equator, the temperature control needs are small. The lunar polar region has more than 100 days of continuous In the illuminated area, there may even be polar day and polar night phenomena. The solar power generation time in the polar day area is long, but the light is weak due to polar reasons, and the permanent shadow area may contain water ice. Considering that the construction of manned lunar bases should ensure the sustainability of people Housing and life are the mainstay, so the demand for water and energy is more urgent, so the Cabeus impact crater in the polar region has more obvious advantages.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

We will use rockets to transport some of the necessary materials from the earth to build our camp, the lunar rover and other items will be manufactured and assembled on the earth before being sent to the lunar camp, and the rest of the small living items will be manufactured by 3D printers. And use anti-space radiation and anti-impact Materials to build our camp.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Our main control room and other camps are connected by channels, ensuring that astronauts can safely shuttle between the control room and various camps even without wearing space suits, and all our camps and channels will be similar to the ecological park. Connected to supply the oxygen needs of astronauts. Our camp will be equipped with an artificial gravity device that allows astronauts to enter the artificial gravity device regularly to alleviate various problems caused by weightlessness. Due to the extreme day and night phenomenon on the moon, we will create an artificial Day and night cycles to ensure the health of astronauts and other creatures.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

The camp uses the recycling of water to reduce water consumption. Needless to say, the water used by the astronauts for bathing, even if the water consumed by breathing and sweating (the water is stored in the cabin in the form of water vapor), it must be collected and reused. Space station The above water purification is mainly carried out in three steps: firstly, the solid particles and slag in the wastewater are filtered out by physical methods; then through a multi-layer sieve to remove organic and inorganic impurities in the water; and finally into the contact “oxidation reactor” to remove Unstable organic matter in the water, and kill bacteria and viruses.

The initial food will be transported from the earth to the moon, and then we will cultivate many plants in the ecological garden, there will be potatoes, soybeans, and other crops to maintain the normal energy and trace element needs of the astronauts.

Solar energy, hydrogen produced by electrolysis and oxygen production is reserved as a backup energy source for emergency use. Astronaut’s excrement can also be converted into methane and burned to generate electricity.

The initial oxygen is transported from the earth to the camp, and then by cultivating the ecological garden, the simple ecological garden in the lunar camp is allowed to generate oxygen to circulate in the base, and the ratio of nitrogen to oxygen is maintained at the ratio on the earth. If we find the moon Ice, we will electrolyze water by melting ice to produce some oxygen.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

Our lunar camp will be mainly used for scientific research, research on lunar soil, and space research. Insects, plants, potato seeds and Arabidopsis will be carried on spacecraft to the moon for research.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

After the astronauts get up, they wash in the bathroom. After breakfast, they go to each district to perform their own tasks, check whether each machine is operating normally, check the data returned by the lunar rover for analysis, or conduct scientific research. At noon, go to the manual Exercise with the gravity device, then go to the restaurant to eat, and then take a rest. In the afternoon, the data will be sorted and analyzed, the status of the ecological park will be checked, and the scientific research personnel on the earth will be communicated and reported. In the evening, the astronauts start entertainment activities and finally enter the rest Area to sleep.
