Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

In the construction phase of the base, ice will be mined from the bottom of craters. They will be melted by magnified sunlight and stored in tanks, which will be installed to the base later. Water in the base will be reused as much as possible. There will be two filtering systems, each is the backup of another. The filtering system is made up of two parts. The first part is a water purifier that depends on filters like POC and UF. The second part is a biological purifier. Water goes through the botanic to get purified.

The main source of food will be the botanic. Astronauts can cultivate plants like potatoes, beet, carrots, peanuts and rice to provide energy, fat, protein and necessary vitamins. There will also be a fish farm to provide meat for the astronauts.

Solar power will account for a large part of the energy supply. Solar panels will provide electricity and power batteries during days. However, they cannot work at night. At night graphene batteries will provide electricity. Nuclear batteries that work on Radioisotopes will provide some of the power as well. Of course, they would be installed at a safe distance from the base. There will be some redundancy and a backup energy in case an emergency occurs.

Nitrogen, the main ingredient of air, will be imported from earth. Oxygen will be extracted from lunar soil which is rich in oxygen. In the building phase of the base, they will be collected and stored in tanks. It will be released little by little to maintain the balance of proportion of oxygen. There will be an air circulation system in the base, transferring air that contains more carbon dioxide to the botanic where air is purified by plants and fresh air from botanic to other rooms.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.
