Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

We named our team name I.M.S because I.S.S stands for International Space Station so our name is International Moon Station. We will build or moon camp in three phases:

Using electromagnetic ramps from the earth we will fling equipment and materials over to the moon.
Then we will assemble our moon camp on the moon with rovers and robots.
Finally, we send the astronauts to the moon with rockets.

Besides the basic systems that will support the daily life of astronauts in moon camp, we will build a few other systems for research and expansion of moon camp:

Rockets for travelling to other planets in our solar system.
M.S.S (Moon Space Station) that orbits the moon for research on gravitational waves, neutrinos, and And look into space on the far side.
Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) for astronomical observations (much less noise compared to the earth).
Moon camp research station, which includes a small particle accelerator, neutrino detector, and a telescope.
3D printing rovers for moon camp future expansion.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Shackleton crater

Why did you choose this location?

We chose to build our base near the Shackleton Crater because it is near the north pole where there is abundant ice water and sunlight.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

We will use carbon fiber (layer 1: graphene, layer 2: carbon fibers, layer 3: aerogel, layer 4 and 5: same as layer 1 and 2 )so that we have

Meteorites. Bigger meteoroids will be destroyed by MAMS (Moon Anti Meteorite system), destroyer rovers and the M.S.S’s rocket launchers after the asteroid can be collected for resources.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

Water: We will extract ice from the underground, melt it, purify it, and store it into water tanks. Water will be used for daily life, making oxygen, growing plants, and raising fish and animals. Wastes water will be treated and recycled.

Food: We use a technique called aquaponics to grow plants and raise fish. Aquaponics: in a pool, there will be some fish. Those fish will release excrements that fertilize the plants, in return the plants clean the excrement water that goes back to the pool.
We will plant lettuce, zucchini, green beans, lettuce, green onions, spinach, tomatoes, corn, summer squash, and strawberry.
We will cross-breed Lettuce and zucchini for optimal efficiency.

Power: We will generate electricity in three ways:
1. Solar panels
2. Nuclear Fusion: We will use helium-3 mined from lunar regolith as fuel for our reactor

Air: we have two ways of getting oxygen.
Water electrolysis
1. Plants
2. We will extract nitrogen from the lunar regolith and add it to oxygen to make the air breathable because pure oxygen will kill humans in 48 hours.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

The crew will wake up at 5:30 am  CEST and they have 1 hour of eating and morning hygiene. Then they will have exercise until 7:30 am. Then they will prepare their experiments until 11:30 am. They will eat lunch from 11:30 am and 12:00 am. After 12:00 am to 1:00 pm they will have exercise then they will conduct the experiments that they prepared for until 4:30 pm. Till 5:00 pm they will check base functions. Till 6:30 pm they will make astronomical observations. Then they will have dinner until 7:30 pm. They will do the cleaning till 8:00 pm. Then they will have free time until 9:00 pm. After that, they will brush their teeth until 9:10 pm. Then they will clean until 9:30 pm. After that, they will sleep at 9:30 pm.

The same routine follows for the M.S.S
