Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our “Traveler” lunar camp project is a large-scale sightseeing hotel built based on the lunar environment and human living conditions. This hotel can provide accommodation, entertainment, sightseeing and other activities, the purpose is to give tourists a pleasant and beautiful lunar travel experience.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

We are going to build our camp at the poles of the moon, because the poles of the moon have a high rate of sunlight, which will provide us with enough light to generate electricity from the sun. At the same time, the moon’s poles are rich in water ice resources, and we can use these water ice resources to turn into domestic water and produce oxygen.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques and materials you would use.

Our Camp Hotel uses moon dust to construct the exterior wall, while aluminum alloy is used to construct the entire interior wall of the hotel through 3D printing technology. We have also built a water and gas plant to deliver air and water to the hotel by way of pipelines. At the same time, solar panels around the hotel can collect sunlight through the power generation system to provide electricity for the hotel.

The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them.

The whole living room of our hotel adopts a semicircular structure, which makes our room more solid and can effectively resist the impact of meteorites. Meanwhile, the inner wall of our building is made of aluminum alloy, the outer wall is made of moon dust, and the double wall can effectively resist the harm of radiation.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

The solar energy would be converted into heat at a hydro-gas plant that would melt lunar ice to produce water, and filtration systems could be added to produce drinkable water.

Keep food brought from Earth in storage space. At the same time, an airtight greenhouse was built in which edible and easy to survive vegetables and fruits could be hydroponically grown with nutrient solution.

Build solar photovoltaic systems to provide electricity. Hydrogen and oxygen are obtained by electrolysis of water and gas resource plant, and hydrogen is separated and converted into fuel.

In the water and gas resource plant, the electrolysis is used to decompress water to get oxygen, and the oxygen is transported to the hotel and greenhouse by pipeline.

Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp (for example: commercial, scientific, and/or tourist purposes).

The main objective of our “Traveler” project is to build a lunar hotel with accommodation, entertainment and sightseeing in one.

Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

In the morning, Mr. Zhang woke up from his hotel room, washed and went to the gym on the first floor of the hotel for exercise, and then had dinner on the first floor of the hotel, where a buffet was provided. After that, Mr. Zhang can use the hotel’s characteristic spiral staircase to reach the observation deck on the third floor of the hotel and view the beautiful view of the moon through bulletproof glass. In the afternoon, Mr. Zhang can enjoy afternoon tea in the independent coffee shop on the first floor. At night he can go to the circular swimming pool on the second floor. After dinner, Mr. Zhang went back to his room to read and rest after the day’s journey.
