Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2020-2021

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Firstly, our Moon camp design is made up of many components, starting with technology to recycling and making use of our own algae. Our moon camp is independent , it is programmed to have daily scans to search for any problems in the camp. For example holes, we wouldn’t want that or else we would run out of air if this happened we have designed back up rooms which generate it’s own air for the people. Our basic plan for this was for everything to run on its own like making food and making air.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Sea of Tranquillity

Why did you choose this location?

For the location of our moon camp , we thought it would be more suitable to live close to the sea of tranquillity because that’s where Apollo 11 landed and so far it seems to be a major success spaceflight.

How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Which materials would you use?

To build the Moon camp we needed some rare metal , so that the metal does not rust, that is if it’s possible. The metal properties would have to be malleable. Solar power, oxygen, and metals are abundant resources on the Moon. Elements known to be present on the lunar surface include, among others, hydrogen, oxygen , silicon , iron, magnesium, calcium, aluminium , manganese and titanium.

Explain how your Moon Camp will provide the astronauts with:
Water
Food
Electricity
Air

We put hard thought on how the astronauts are provided with water, food, air and power. For the water it would be from urine by reverse osmosis, carbon filtration the osmosis and distillation.

For the food we would have to stack the place up with food and on how to preserve it would be deep freeze drying and placing the food into a vacuum chamber. We would also have to grow some food , by that we would have to plant food.

For power we have decided to use solar power from the sun which is an easy outlay.

For the air we’d have to use the plants for oxygen.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

We’ve tried our best to make our day like a day on earth but basic. At the start of the day an astronaut would have to align the solar panels in the direction of the sun, as the moon orbits the earth to harness the solar energy. From there, the astronaut would have to check the integrity of the capsules for potential breaches, after that he/she would enter their moon rover to go out and clean the surface solar panels from moon dust so they would harness as much solar energy as possible. The rest of the day they’d relax or watch asteroids surf across the milky way. The astronaut would then carry out testing and analyzing samples from the moon surface and sub-surface for signs of life. From there on the astronauts are free for the the day.
