Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

Our Moon Camp is located in the South of the Moon. There are more hours of sun in this place than in others and we are near the water ice. Our Moon Camp is designed for 6 people. It has a bedroom with 6 beds, a living room, a kitchen, a laboratory, and a gym. There are several solar panels to obtain the energy for our Moon Camp. There is also a waste treatment plant in order to obtain clear water. There is a Moon landing station too. We have designed a greenhouse in order to obtain some vegetables and oxygen.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

We have chosen this place because it is near a water supply. There is ice on the poles of the Moon, so we can use it to obtain water. There are more hours of sun in the South of the Moon. We decided to locate our Moon Camp in the South because we plan to use Solar Energy for our Moon Camp.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

We plan to use a 3D printer to build our Moon Camp using the regolith of the Moon. There are other materials on the Moon as metals that we can use for some pieces of our Moon Camp. Some materials can be transported from the Earth by dust.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

We will use the ice on the South pole of the Moon. We have designed a water treatment plant to get it back.

We have designed a greenhouse to obtain some vegetables. We think that it is not possible to have animals on the Moon, so it is necessary to bring some food from the Earth. This foon must be free dried for instance.

The power source is the Sun. We have designed several Solar Panels to get the energy for the Moon Camp. Building our Moon Camp in this place, the South of the Moon is required to obtain the much energy as possible.

We need the greenhouse to obtain oxygen from the vegetables. There is a device that can transform Co2 into Oxygen. The device was in the “Perseverance” and it worked. We can use the hydrolysis of water too.

Our Moon Camp is underground, where our astronauts will be safe from UV and meteorites. We will use a specific mesh that can stop the UV.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

Our astronauts will get up early in the morning. They can go to the kitchen to have breakfast. Later they can go to the gym to exercise their muscles. The gravity on the Moon is much more light, so they have to learn about their movements. They can use a bit of water to do their hygiene routine. This water will get back into our water treatment plant. Later they can spend some time in the laboratory to analyze their experiments. They can go out when the temperature outside is not too hot or too cold to obtain some samples. They have to use a specific dress for it. They have to visit the greenhouse and check their vegetables and conditions there. In the evening they can be together having dinner, chatting about the day and spending some free time.
