Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

My project consists of parts such as the area of solar panels sufficient to store energy for 29 days that lasts the lunar day, energy needed for the camp, the shuttle, the de-icing machines, oxygen generators, thermal regulators, lighting and the Lunar Moon, there is another area with the de-icing and purification machines and the water reserve tanks, which is needed for human consumption, to water the plants and to create oxygen, this oxygen is created in another area where are the oxygen generators from the water, I have the terrarium type greenhouse area to recreate the environmental conditions necessary for planting, the small rovers are the work and cargo rovers since some of them carry pieces of ice to the machines, others have the task of cleaning the lunar dust from the glass domes, so they have a very long arm, the big rover is the transport rover, all of them self-sufficient, the shuttle is very aerodynamic and hybrid, The Lunar Moon area is underground with temperature regulator, with feeding areas, sleeping areas, showers, recreation area and sunbathing area which has a crystal that shows the night, the stars and the day, all areas are protected with a meteorite-proof glass.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

I chose it because I believe that it should be close to natural resources such as water, since due to the topographic conditions of the moon it is easier to extract the ice and perform the thawing process if you are near this area, also less material and less effort is required, another reason is that the temperatures in this area are less extreme than in others, which favors adaptation.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

The plan is to do most of the construction and parts on earth, so that the work on the moon will be mostly assembly, materials will be used such as: unbreakable glass with sunscreen filter, insulating material for the lunar Moon area, titanium and rustproof metals, it would need, machinery to excavate and to flatten the lunar surface where the camp will be built, machines to install assembly and material to hermetically seal all areas of the camp, all materials resistant to cold and heat.

Water
Food
Electricity
Air
Protection

Water can be obtained by extracting ice from the lunar poles with the help of the working rovers, taking the ice to a thawing and purification machine, from there the water is stored in tanks for its conservation, which will have conduits to all the areas that require water such as the camp, the greenhouse, the oxygen machine, etc.

To obtain the food, a portion of soil must be taken to the moon, enough for the greenhouses, plants already growing and many seeds, the greenhouse must be terrarium type, a layer of stones is added, another of activated carbon, another of moss or something that replaces it, another of soil, the already grown plants must be planted and plants that release a lot of oxygen must be taken; to the greenhouse are connected tubes to provide oxygen and water, it also has a thermal regulator that keeps the temperature stable, so the oxygen is needed less and less, as the plants are releasing their own oxygen is recreated a kind of atmosphere inside, after this result you can plant the seeds and fertilize them.

The energy will be extracted from the sun, through giant solar panels with battery storage capacity of long duration, because the lunar nights are very long and cold, energy will also be extracted through the hydrogen that comes out of the machine that decomposes the water to extract oxygen, as this separates the oxygen from hydrogen, this hydrogen is used in an electrochemical reaction to create energy which also serves for de-icing and purification machines, thermal machines, oxygen creating machines, and others.

Oxygen is extracted from water, which in turn is extracted from the lunar poles, the water is passed through an oxygen generating machine that performs a process of electrolysis where water is decomposed into oxygen atoms and hydrogen atoms and each atom goes to a tank, some to contain and preserve oxygen and others to contain and preserve hydrogen.

All areas of the project are protected by unbreakable glass domes, so that humans and machines are protected from meteorites and lunar dust. To protect against radiation due to the high temperatures, the glass domes have a radioactive ray shielding filter. To protect against high and low temperatures, the lunar camp is built with walls of insulating material. To protect against high and low temperatures, temperature regulators will be distributed in all areas to maintain a stable temperature.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

In Moon Camp he would get up very early, shower, exercise, sunbathe in the inner camp area that has a glass roof, to get energy and vitamin D, prepares his breakfast, the first thing he does is the review of all systems, temperature, oxygen, leaks, checks the production of hydrogen, water, oxygen, energy, etc., all to avoid problems and solve them in time, check the plants and their fruits, watering, fertilizing, pruning, etc., He prepares his lunch and then works in the laboratory where he analyzes the best methods of sowing, plants that can reach the fruit successfully, makes research seedbeds, makes studies of the lunar earth, the lunar atmosphere and extracts its components, makes studies and sends the reports, uses the successful experiments in daily life, occasionally checks his health through blood tests in the laboratory, and from time to time performs explorations to the lunar territory in the transport Rover and accompanied by a working Rover to extract samples of lunar surface to study them in the laboratory, from time to time communicate with people on earth to socialize, chat, it is important for the mental health of astronauts and to help improve their environmental, educational, physical, nutritional, hygienic conditions etc.. , prepare their food, rest and sleep.
