Moon Camp Explorers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Explorers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Tinkercad. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

In this project I have tried to gather all the necessary qualities to be able to survive on the moon without taking any risk. I have tried to take into account all the precautionary measures so that the astronauts who go to the lunar field are as safe as possible and that they can lead a more or less normal life. In the lunar field there are all the necessities that a human needs, even some that are not essential but I have added them. Since the supplies are not unlimited, it is necessary to recharge them, so I have added a loading dock to be able to replenish supplies and food. In the lunar field I have incorporated an escape rocket for when they have to leave in case of emergency, it is also equipped with meteorite impact-proof armored doors in case one hits the lunar field. The windows of the lunar field are made of a glass that does not allow infrared light to pass through and prevents damage to the skin that can cause serious injuries.

As there is no ozone layer on the moon, the sun is stronger and burns more, that is why the buildings of this lunar field are white so that the heat is not so strong inside.

Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

Close to the lunar poles

Why did you choose this location?

Because scientists recently discovered ice on lunar poles that could be melted to obtain liquid water.

How do you plan to build your Mooncamp? Which materials will you use?

My Moon camp must be built with cranes that will be mounted on the moon, we will raise them with a rocket disassembled by pieces. Once we have the cranes mounted on the moon, we will upload another rocket with the necessary material. The structures will be made of aluminum since it is the most resistant material to sun and water. The walls will be of a specific thickness that will allow them not to break due to the space atmosphere or the degradation of the sun.

Protection

On the moon there are blocks of ice that can be collected and melted. We do not know if this water is totally drinkable, what we have to do is make the water drinkable with a small amount of chlorine that is not harmful to people.

In the lunar field there are some warehouses where there is a capacity of food that lasts six months. When it runs out they send a rocket with more food to refill the store. There is also a vegetable garden where vegetables are planted so that the food in the store lasts longer.

To generate power, solar panels are installed on the roof of the lunar field. These plates work only when the sun shines on them, that’s why there is a generator that works with organic matter, you add organic components such as dry leaves from the oxygenation zone or food scraps that are left over and cannot be eaten.

To generate oxygen there is a room full of plants that are in constant contact with sunlight since that room has armored glass walls, when the sunlight does not give there are some spotlights installed so that the plants do not stop oxygenating. As it is not enough, there is a machine that renews the oxygen.

The walls of the building are made of aluminum that is very resistant to the sun, they have a specific thickness that makes it impenetrable by the sun. The astronauts’ suits are also made of aluminum fibers that prevent or reduce contact with the sun’s rays.

Describe a day on the Moon for one of your Moon Camp astronauts

In the morning, the astronaut wakes up with an alarm. He heads to the kitchen and grabs one of the caffeinated protein bars. The astronaut goes to the bathroom and takes a shower, brushes his teeth. Then he goes to the orchard to see that everything is correct and to the farm to see that the animals are well and have food. Check that everything is in order and go out to explore the moon or to complete an order sent from headquarters.
