Moon Camp Pioneers Gallery 2021-2022

In Moon Camp Pioneers each team’s mission is to 3D design a complete Moon Camp using Fusion 360. They also have to explain how they will use local resources, protect astronauts from the dangerous of space and describe the living and working facilities.

Project description

The purpose of the project is for scientific research, through the autonomous mining Robot using ROS (Robot Opening System) operating System, the autonomous navigation, Moveit mechanical arm and other functional modules to control the car. The car comes with a storage box, which can temporarily store the collected resources, and equipped with cameras and instruments for preliminary detection and classification. After analysis, the data is transmitted to the base for detailed analysis and experiments by scientific researchers. Moon walking car to pick up the staff of the lunar terrain for exploration, we provide water to transport liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen by rocket, and equipped with water storage devices, realize the recycling of water, through the solar panels to maintain energy, plant seeds grow vegetables to carry and use artificial greenhouse grow vegetables to maintain food source, the base by vacuum, A new inorganic compound mixed with iodine that can control the temperature of the base through a physically varying endothermic release of heat.

2.1 Where do you want to build your Moon Camp?

The base is located in the lunar “valley”, which is mostly on a flat part of the moon, reducing the difficulty of building a base. In addition, there are gullies near the “Moon Valley”, rich in materials, many materials almost naked leakage, greatly reducing the difficulty of looking for various lunar materials, convenient for project research.

2.2 How do you plan to build your Moon Camp? Describe the techniques, materials and your design choices.

In building its own base using 3D printing technology to build the framework, exerting the potential of the unit without external force. In addition, the use of aluminum matrix composites in building materials reduces transportation costs and provides security. The middle layer of the building is equipped with ” thermal control coating”, which can control the temperature suitable for living. The ceiling on the third floor is made of adjustable glass, which can control the light intensity. In addition, a layer of palladium powder will be added to the building to reduce the damage caused by radiation.

2.3 The environment on the Moon is very dangerous for the astronauts. Explain how your Moon Camp will protect them. (maximum 150 words)

The crew’s clothing is made of silver fiber radiation-proof material and deep-sea precipitated fabric, which reduces the radiation from the moon. In addition, the gravity of the moon is small, and long-term residence will cause muscle atrophy. We have fitness and rehabilitation equipment on the base to ensure the health of the staff. The middle layer of the building is “thermally coated”, which is a new inorganic compound of iodine whose physical properties change at 20 degrees Celsius, maintaining the optimum temperature of the site by absorbing heat and releasing heat.

The rocket transports liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, and obtains water and energy through combustion. the base has a water storage device that can collect and treat living wastewater and realize water circulation.

Artificial vegetable greenhouses are built on the base, and plant seeds are planted in greenhouses. the soil composition in greenhouses is the same as that of the earth. the glass cover of greenhouses can control the duration and intensity of light, make plants thrive, and thus maintain the source of food

Energy is provided mainly by solar panels, which generate electricity and maintain the energy of the base. in addition, the combustion of liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen can also obtain heat energy.

Some liquid oxygen can provide oxygen, and plant photosynthesis can be used to provide oxygen. oxygen collecting machines have been built in greenhouses, which can collect exhaled carbon dioxide and discharge it into greenhouses to realize oxygen recycling. In addition, in special cases, electrolytic water can be used to obtain oxygen.

2.5 Explain what would be the main purpose of your Moon Camp.

3.1 Describe a day on the Moon for your Moon Camp astronaut crew.

In the morning, the light frequency of the flexible lamp changes, so that the astronauts wake up naturally without mental stimulation. When they wash in the washing area, the domestic water generated will enter the water storage device for water recycling. Through the acquisition vehicle, the solid water of the moon will be treated and fresh water will be obtained. Take the elevator to the third floor sports area for exercise, to prevent muscle atrophy, but also for medical testing rehabilitation. After exercise, take a 20-minute rest and have breakfast in the dining area on the second floor. The food comes from the vegetable greenhouse. The special glass of the greenhouse can be controlled through the control center to control the amount of electric current so as to control the transmittance of the glass, so that the plants can get the most appropriate light source. Go to the first floor for a test study. Laboratory research data can be stored in the office computer. Go outdoors to explore the material, to go through the disinfection area, in the disinfection to put on spacesuits, and then go to the equipment area to find a good tool, drive the moon scooter, to carry out the mission. The mining robot adopts hybrid power device and can use solar energy to work. After the mission, it will be disinfected when it returns to the base, and the spacesuit will be placed in the disinfection area. The mechanical devices will be analyzed and repaired by automatic maintenance machinery. At twelve o ‘clock, go to the dining area on the second floor for lunch, then go to the rest area for a rest, or to the sports area for activities, you can also go to the discussion room for academic discussion. The control center operated autonomously, sterilizing the first floor of the base. After dinner, I went to the discussion room for a summary of the day. Then I went to the sports area on the third floor for physical exercise. After a rest, I went to the washing area on the second floor for washing. Finally sleep at ten o ‘clock in the evening, at this time the control center control water storage device, oxygen supply device, temperature control device, disinfection device and other work, and the flexible lamp light frequency change, so that the astronauts naturally into sleep.
